We met with the hospital driver at 7:30am and were on our way to Vajira Hospital. At Vajira Hospital, we were introduced to the Chief Director, who had American style pepperoni pizza waiting for us in his conference room to help us feel more at home. Little did he know that I much prefer the Thai food, I enjoyed every meal in Thailand to the fullest. The Chief Director talked us through a powerpoint presentation explaining the history of the hospital, research opportunities at the hospital, affiliations with other hospitals, and medical student life. Vajira hospital is located in the hub of Bangkok and is a associate facility of SWU. The hospital is public, and houses open wards with upward of 1,000 beds. We spent hours visiting the different departments and learning about the facility and about individual patients. Later in the evening, a med student we met took a walk around town with us, and treated us to chicken skewers and pudding dessert. Eventually, the driver took us back to SWU.
